Travel and Player Services Intern - Bank of the West Classic (Palo Alto, CA)

The Bank of the West Classic, entering its 43rd year, is the longest-running women-only professional tennis tournament in the world. It is the first WTA stop of the Emirates Airline US Open Series and takes place in Palo Alto, CA. The 2013 Bank of the West Classic will be held July 22-28 at Stanford University and features a 28-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles draw. The tournament’s former champions include: Billie Jean King, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Andrea Jaeger, Monica Seles, Martina Hingis, Lindsay Davenport and Serena Williams. Travel & Player Services
The Travel & Player Services role will include collaborating with departments and includes working with players and guests. Ideal candidate is highly organized, can handle a number of tasks at once and is extremely personable, even in tough situations (e.g., late nights, player concerns). The job does entail a degree of physical ability, most notably the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Duties will include:
• Renewing trades from previous year’s partners and research/recruit new partners
o Categories include player gift bags, player activities, player lounge enhancements, trophies, etc.
o Cold calls and follow-ups are important
o Trade fulfillment—assist with gathering all information in order to fulfill trade agreements
• Credentials
o Assist with inputting data into the credential computer and tracking down missing information
o Assist with player/industry credentials on site but following WTA credential policy
o Create credential boards and stickers for credentials
• Department Handbooks
o Gather updated information from each department and create handbooks for sponsors, players, etc.
• Player’s Lounge
o Help create a timeline for deliveries and pick-up’s to the Player’s Lounge
o Design and Print Signs for Player’s Lounge
o Assist with set up and organization of player’s lounge on site
o During the tournament, help players with questions, maintain cleanliness of lounge and locker rooms, replenish lounge, assist with any unforeseeable needs
o Assist with break-down and packing of player’s lounge
• Post Tournament
o Help pack up site and create wrap up report
o Mail Tournament Trophies to winners/finalists
o Coordinate any pickups needed with Player Services department
• Any other related tournament responsibilities that arise

Qualifications
• Current College Student—must be able to receive college credit
• Professional around high profile athletes
• Patient, organized and self motivated
• Excellent communication and people skills
• Must be team-oriented
• Must have good time management skills
• Must be able to handle multiple tasks
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite a plus but not required
• Available to work long hours and weekends

**ALL interns’ responsibilities are subject to change based on the needs and demands leading up to and during tournament week. Travel expenses and accommodations will be provided to Palo Alto, CA for the tournament. Interns do need to provide their own housing in Miami.**

Our interns will learn about the business and more importantly how to sell based on IMG Learfield Ticket Solutions' MVP. The result is comprehensive sales training program customized for the college sales area and taught year round to all IMG Learfield Ticket Solutions employees.


MVP focuses on the proactive sales approach to the IMG Learfield Ticket Solutions sales engine. It requires our professional sales account executives to provide superior customer service with a focus on retaining and building new fans and donors.


Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Sell full menu ticket packages for GSU Football and Basketball via phone calls and in-person meetings
• Provide superior customer service to existing and prospective clients
• Call current and past customers and cold-call new leads to generate sales
• Represent GSU Athletics and IMG Learfield Ticket Solutions at community and special events
• Assist GSU sales staff with researching prospecting lists
• Participate in MVP Wednesday Webinars with all IMG Learfield Ticket Solutions employees providing consistent sales training on prevalent topics


This internship requires 20-30 hours/week and is available only to Junior and Senior students seeking credit. Marketing or Sports Management majors preferred. Must be creative, have intense attention to detail and eagerness to learn.

Broadcast Clients Internship (Summer 2013) - IMG (Los Angeles, CA)

 

IMG's Internship Program offers a select group of undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to work at one of the world's leading broadcast entertainment and sports talent agencies.

During the 8-week summer program, interns are exposed to a wide variety of business practices in the field of broadcast entertainment and also receive formal instruction on the fundamentals of the talent agency business. 

Students who are actively enrolled in a four-year undergraduate bachelor degree program or graduate degree program (M.A., J.D., M.B.A., etc.) at an accredited college or university are eligible to apply to the program. Students must have completed at least their sophomore year course work and have a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0. There is no restriction on what declared major, degree program or course of study applicants must pursue.

Interns work in the IMG Century City office in Los Angeles, CA. The period for the summer program is an 8-week program beginning mid-June.

All Internship applications must include: a cover letter requesting consideration for the program which describes their career interests in the broadcast entertainment and sports industry and a resume with all relevant education, work experience, special skills and interests.

Responsibilities to include:


A. Sponsor and Vendor Liaison
1. Develop ‘Rules and Regulation’ materials and packet
2. Assist EM with vendor business and health permit applications (as necessary)
3. Assist ED & EM to manage and update the Village tent matrix (track all vendor booth needs - chairs, tables, tent size, floor, power, sound levels, etc)
B. Inventory & Shipping
1. Communicate all shipping and receiving instructions to all sponsors, vendors and participants
2. Inventory all sponsor storage containers on site
C. Assist ED & EM with vendor booth placement – Must keep track of any sponsor / vendor conflicts
D. Structure and sell barter deals for all event catering needs, florist, VIP suite decorations, etc.
E. Health permits
Work with ED & EM to apply for all health permits for catering onsite. Apply for all health permits for sponsors/vendors sampling food, ensure health permit restrictions are met (sinks, tent walls, floors and turf, catering set-up locations, etc)
F. Catering Logistics: Determine catering schedules for all event food areas and manage all food deliveries
G. Product distribution and schedule throughout event site
H. Work with EM to develop and execute credentialing system for the Event
I. Hospitality gift bag management and distribution
J. Lodging and travel coordination
K. Develop PA Guide for webcast and on-site announcers (work closely with EM and ECs)
L. Develop ‘Sponsor Welcome Kits’ (Shared duty)
M. Assist EM with volunteer management
N. Assist Digital Coordinator (DC) to update US Open website content as needed (strong writing skills a MUST)
O. Television and Big Screen Programming: Assist EM to traffic and organize sponsor graphics, logos and commercials for TV and big screen video reel
P. Work closely with ED and DC re: current event related information for all digital social media channels
Q. Provide support (as needed) for the Event
R. Event Wrap-up / Recap Report

The training methods at APD are structured to allow the athlete to better express their natural athleticism by comprehensively increasing all areas of individual performance. IMG Academy APDI provides sport performance training for the world-renowned IMG Bollettieri Tennis Academy, IMG Academy Golf, Soccer, Baseball, Basketball, Lacrosse and Football. This is an excellent opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in the real world of sports training and management. The sport management internship gives students the opportunity to work with athletes, coaches, agents and administration staff from across the world.

Position Responsibilities
Observe and learn about the multiple divisions within APD, including:
Physical conditioning, Nutrition, Communication, Life Skills, College Prep, Vision Training, and Sports Medicine
Plan and execute projects for business development
Schedule both short and long term athlete clients
Market the APDI programs
Contact and meet with potential clients and families and facilitate tours
Provide excellent customer service
Coordinate with staff and ensure that athletes attend their sessions
Assist the sales and business staff of APD
Inventory Management
Data collection and analysis with the Combine360 measurement system (www.combine360.com)
Round table discussions with business staff and outside agents, business people on multiple topics

Ticket Office Internship (Summer 2013) - IMG Tickets (Miami, FL)
  • Primary responsibility on a daily basis is to serve as an integral part of the IMG Tickets Call Center staff, which includes interns and Ticket Supervisors, providing high quality customer service to patrons & guests of multiple client events.
  • Work under the direction of the Ticket Managers and Ticket Supervisors with the ability to open and close Call Center, organize Will Call, utilize ticketing software, and assist with the preparation of financial reports as needed.
  • Process daily sales and create sales reports for multiple events.
  • Coordinate premium seat ticketing and invoicing for multiple events.
  • Manage all mail orders, tickets fulfillment, telephone, subscription and single game sales for multiple events.
  • Exposure to affiliated departments and personnel (Sponsors, Media and Tournament VIP's) to understand the different facets of the event & ticketing business.
  • Exposure to managing multiple events; communicate and coordinate with other event Supervisors in order to achieve desired results.
  • Development and implementation of procedural manuals.
  • Additional functions would include renewals, invoices, and ticket printing for season and/or daily clients.
  • 25+ hour commitment per week. Flexible hours.
  • Potential for travel opportunity to an event upon successful completion of the internship
